In northern Piedmont, stretching from Lake Maggiore to the Swiss border, lies the Ossola Valley: a landscape shaped over millennia by the force of water into a world of waterfalls, gorges and canyons. The documentary follows the course of the river Toce from its source among the glaciers of Monte Rosa to its confluence with the lake, traversing a territory where the relationship between people and mountains has been renewed for centuries.

From the dam keepers at Sabbione at 2,500 metres above sea level, to the Candoglia quarry that has supplied marble for Milan Cathedral for over six hundred years. From the gold mines of Pestarena to the Walser communities of the upper Formazza Valley. From the rock paintings of Balma dei Cervi, the most extensive prehistoric discovery in the entire Alpine arc, to the video projections in the disused quarries of Tones Teatro Natura.

The film tells the stories of people who live, work and protect these mountains: hydroelectric engineers, cathedral stonemasons, alpine rescuers operating among torrents and canyons, glaciologists documenting the retreat of the glaciers, hunters turned discoverers of archaeological treasures. A journey into the deep bond between humanity and nature, in a valley in constant transformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
