In the mountains of Val Seriana, a few individuals have chosen to stay and build their futures here. Andrea tends to his bees in Gandellino, Laura starts a farm from scratch, Aldo continues herding sheep even after retirement, and Virginio preserves the ancient art of puppetry. A collective tale of resilience, passion, and deep roots. In the countryside between Lakes Martignano and Bracciano, different lives intertwine in harmony with nature. The young members of the Barikamà cooperative grow vegetables and make yogurt using traditional African techniques. Sara, a cook and forager, transforms wild herbs into dishes with ancient flavors. Two stories showcasing a sustainable way of life based on respect, attentiveness, and meaningful work. To discover Val D’Ossola, one must move slowly—like nomadic beekeeper Giacomo, who brings his hives from the calm shores of Lake Maggiore to the rhododendrons of Alpe Devero. Along the way, he reconnects with friends and family who share a deep bond with the land, creating regional specialties like blueberry yogurt, felt hats, traditional Ossolan hives, and alpine cheese. One spoonful of wildflower honey is enough to taste it all. In the upper Val di Taro, nestled in the folds of the Apennines, Daniele lives close to nature and devotes himself to studying wolves. After leaving Milan and his sustainable farm, he founded the association “Io non ho paura del lupo” to promote mindful coexistence between humans and wildlife.

Using camera traps and patient observation, Daniele introduces us to three distinct wolf packs in the area. The documentary Alvadòr follows the life of the community of the same name, founded by a group of young people in San Giovanni Di Querciola, in the hills of Reggio Emilia, throughout the four seasons. The title, meaning “yeast” in the local dialect, references the symbol of bread, representing the cohesion, growth, and maturation of the group. Between the castles of Canossa and Rossena, the gradual abandonment of farmland has allowed wild nature to reclaim the area. Yet, some inhabitants have chosen to live and work here in harmony with this lush landscape.

A film by Massimo Tabai.

It is mid-November at Malga Davanti, in the Schio region, near the border between Vicenza and Trento provinces. Thanks to the dedication of two friends, an alpine pasture, closed for a decade atop Monte Novegno, has been brought back to life. Their project, however, goes beyond mere management, speaking to a sense of community and a way of creating a sustainable, environmentally respectful economy rooted in the local territory.

A film by Renzo Carbonera.

In the heart of Valtellina, Val di Togno hides a treasure: an abandoned refuge that a young Belgian couple decides to revitalize. Immersed in the isolated life of the alpine region, they face the challenge of renovation, make friends with local shepherds, and learn recipes, fishing techniques, and traditions. Festivals

Rompemoldes in Spanish means “outside the mold” and represents the fusion of avant-garde and tradition in artisanal creativity. In a domestic inner courtyard in Seville, around twenty artisans live and work, with workshops on the ground floor and homes above. The documentary tells the stories of some of these artisans and takes us on a journey through the city’s workshops, exploring traditional Andalusian ceramics, the creation of Sevillian fans, and the sacred art of Seville’s legendary Holy Week. Nembro, an ancient Roman outpost in the Val Seriana, is known for its sharpening stones used for knives and for stories of people like Daniel and Mario Curnis, who chose to live and work in their homeland. Between farming, beekeeping, and an emigrant museum, the town preserves and celebrates its rich history and culture.

A film by Daniele Gangemi.

Orobie Film Festival 2025

Val Serina, in the heart of the Bergamasque Orobie, is a place rich in history, art, and traditions, where passion for the land is expressed in various forms, from farming to blacksmithing, from terracotta to genuine cuisine.
